Psychedelic Art 1966

Hello - Not much to report today, but I have a few recommendations.

Novel: "The Drop Edge of Yonder" by Rudolph Wurlitzer
Film: "Walker" - directed by Alex Cox, written by Wurlitzer
(both recommended on Dennis Cooper's blog.)
Young Adult Novel: "The Education of Robert Nifkin" by Daniel Pinkwater
Film: "Le Plaisir" directed by Max Ophuls
Film: It's been a long time since I saw "Two Lane Blacktop" but it's great. Turns out the screenplay was written by Wurlitzer.

laura.g: Weird...psychic powers...I came across these in my usual way - by searching for something totally unrelated.

Matt Cassity: Not bad at all.

Kay Tobin Lahusen

Various events in various cities.
Kay Lahusen - 1971

"Kay Lahusen (b. January 5, 1930 also known as Kay Tobin) is considered the first openly gay photojournalist of the gay rights movement."

In 2007, Lahusen and her partner, Barbara Gittings, donated their papers to the NYPL.
Hello - Had a great weekend, weatherwise and otherwise. On Saturday, Hit Factorie was invited to install the window display at Word bookstore. We hauled the photocopier over there and whipped up a Summer Reading themed HIT BOOK! I don't mind telling you, it looks great. They're having us back for a reception/artist's talk/event on Thursday July 23rd.
Sunday, Kelly and I went down to the Brooklyn Lyceum for Zine Fest. It was great and we bought some zines and a poster. Aaron Wojack had a table there for his project Surprise, and let us sell some copies of HIT BOOK! Thanks Aaron!
We were ready for a relaxing Sunday evening, but a bunch of folks were having post-Pride beers at the Metropolitan. We sat in the backyard and had a fine time...good company, cheap drinks and free cheeseburgers.
How was your weekend?

Hello - Last night I went to the opening for Trance, Chance, Dreams & the Unconscious at SOUTHFIRST. Some good stuff in there including two drawings by Jesse Bransford. Check it out.
Speaking of gallery shows, has anyone seen the Basil Wolverton show at Gladstone yet?
If you're going, take me with you.

kellyr: Of course! Should we set up a light show, a "guided meditation", or both?

Starry Ride

RIP Sky Sunlight Saxon

Artist Richard Aldcroft photographed by Yale Joel.

Hello - Not much to say today. Sad news about MJ. Never really listened to his music except on the dancefloor, but I like "Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough" quite a lot. It's a jam and it has kind of Tantric/Hippie lyrics.
Didn't hear about Sky Saxon until this morning...what a bummer.
Gonna listen to the Seeds and Source Family bands all day.

Miranda: Yeah, Diana Davies is great and I keep finding more photos. She was involved with other social justice movements at the time, but she was also a musician so there are all these photos of Bob Dylan, Son House, Buffy Sainte-Marie, etc.

These are from the NYPL Digital Gallery.
More of her photos available at the Smithsonian.
Hello - Not much to report. Thinking about going up to the library to see this today. Expect more Diana Davies photos in the near future, she's great.

Hello - Lots of stuff happening...work for pay fundraiser was Monday night. Good turn out and it went well. Thanks to everyone who came! If you missed out, don't worry, we'll be at the next FEAST. Went to the Met yesterday with Stephanie and Juliet. Medieval drawings are amazing. Pictures Generation show was good but I need to go back and spend some more time. Francis Bacon was...not my cup of tea, let's say. Very "dark" in a TeenAngst-DeathPoetry kind of way. Went up on the roof and had no reaction to the Roxy Paine piece. None at all, except thinking, "You probably shouldn't let your kid climb on that expensive sculpture.

Bree: Thanks! Nice to hear from you, how are you?

Anonymous: Yes, those stills are creepy but the actual Wegman videos are really funny and great. Totally worth a viewing.

Hey - Went to the High Line yesterday. It's pretty great. My favorite aspect is the amphitheater that looks out onto oncoming traffic. It's still under construction but I imagine there will be some J.G. Ballard style freakiness happening up there. Do you think the architects mention Crash when they talk about that space?
Hung out with the crew last night. Went dancing at Tandem. DJ Drum Circle and DJ Teen Hugs played some great jams, e.g. "Everybody" by Madonna and "Jupiter's Critic & the Mind of Mars" by DJ Quik and Kurupt. A good time was had by all.
Picked up our farm share this morning. Looking good. Excited to start cooking.

circle&square: I know we already talked about this but...yeah that house is super weird and out of place. I didn't know about the seasonal teddy bear in the window. Can't imagine being around when it happened. Crazy. Haven't seen the Weatherman documentary but it's on my list now.

#6 "A body being removed from a townhouse that was being used as a bomb factory exploded." Bill Eppridge.

Hey - Might go check out the High Line today.

Matt Cassity: I don't remember ever getting the full DARE presentation but I definitely learned some things from their brochures and such. Wonder if you could find one of those display cases at a police auction or something.

Hey - saw some art yesterday, some good, some bad.
Also saw two different men on the street with Hitler-style moustaches, one of whom was in the army.
Can we somehow add that to the US military dress code?
I'd like a strict "No Fuhrer-stache" policy, they disturb the civilians.

Sour Milk: Did she even bother saying "no" or did she just laugh?

Hello- Going for a hike today, should be fun. Had a rehearsal yesterday for a performance coming up. More on that later. Also: a sing-a-long. And pizza. And I made some cookies. It was a good day.

Diego Caguenas Rozo: Hey! Good to hear from you, how are you doing? I will work on a more complete post. I'm jealous that you've been there...

More about Goreme/Cappadocia here.
Hey - Got distracted yesterday and forgot to say a couple other things about the blog.
Namely, that the whole thing came about due to the encouragement of the lovely and talented Kelly R, back when she was doing W E A K.
Thanks!
Also, Kelly and I have a new blog documenting our weekend excursions.
Take a look at Day Tripper.

David Michael and Jennette: Thanks guys!

Hello - Went to the 7th Regiment Armory yesterday with Sarah G.
Saw the big Ernesto Neto show, Anthropodino, then explored the space.
Fun show, but that building throws some serious shade.
Walked down to MoMA for the Monday Night event.
Singing, costumes, cult talk, babies, good times.

body kits: Thanks for stopping by and thanks for your kind words.

Hello - Our hike was super fun but today I'm pretty tired.

Hello - I got bored with these postscript things pretty quickly. Maybe I'll just do them once in a while.

Miranda and David Michael: I'm glad you liked the Edith Wharton post. I just finished reading Age of Innocence and I was really into her descriptions of clothing and interiors. That Beinecke archive has all kinds of manuscripts, letters, etc. Any other authors you'd like to see?
